What is your jewelry made of?
Our Jewelry is made of 99.9% pure copper wire with other natural elements like genuine gemstones and cowrie shells. Some necklaces are made with genuine leather cord, and a few of our hoop style earrings are made with glass seed beads.
What are the benefits of copper?
Copper is a natural mineral that your body uses to carry out many important functions, including making energy, connective tissues, and blood vessels. Copper also helps maintain the nervous and immune systems, and is known to help alleviate inflammation and soreness in muscles and tendons, making it helpful for those who suffer with arthritis and Carpal tunnel syndrome
Is Copper hypoallergenic and safe for sensitive skin?
As with all jewelry, the more pure the metal the less chance of an allergic reaction. We handcraft our pieces with 99.9% pure copper wire to avoid the nickel and other additives that often trigger reactions in sensitive skin.
Why is my Copper turning dark and discolored?
Copper naturally oxidizes over time as it comes into contact with our skin, sweat, and any oils or body care products we often use. This oxidation can cause the metal to appear, dark, dull or green. This does not mean your piece is defective or that the copper is impure, it just means its time for a good cleaning!
How do I clean my Copper jewelry?
There are a few ways to clean your copper and remove any oxidation to get back to your original shine. A few quick methods using things already around the kitchen:
1) Baking Soda and lemon juice: Cut a lemon in half, sprinkle a bit of baking soda on top of the pulp and rub the lemon on your jewelry, then rinse it clean and dry it with a soft cloth.
2) Ketchup: This is my personal favorite method. Using a soft dry cloth, rub ketchup on your piece and let it sit for a few moments before rinsing it clean and drying it with a soft cloth. The acid in the tomatoes will naturally bring your piece back to life. Check out this how to video here on our Instagram 🙂
3) Boil vinegar, salt and water: for badly tarnished pieces, boil a cup of vinegar, a tablespoon of salt, and three cups of water in a large pot and add your piece into the mixture. Let it boil until the tarnish begins to come off, then carefully remove the piece and let it cool before rinsing and drying with a soft cloth.
Tip: After cleaning, apply a small amount of mineral oil to your piece to keep it from tarnishing so quickly in the future.
